The idea for this song came to me after looking various early portraits at a national exhibition, and appreciating how long it took to paint - and sit for - those portraits. I thought of how today's digital picture frames just rotate to a new image every so often - and how people say someone is "no longer in the picture" when a relationship ends or fades.

Lyrics

Feeling like I was pushed to the edge
Like a man without a name
I was facing an imminent pledge
Now it’s you who’s out of frame, you who’s out of frame

We once shared some sweet summer wine
And the cool evenings of the fall
It’s right there for us to see
In that picture still on my wall, still up on my wall

Moving to our own corners
Going our separate ways
Put a great distance between us
And numbering our days,
Oh, yeah numbering our days

All those hesitations
And all that leveled blame
They pushed us to those corners
And then right out of frame,
Right out of the frame

That old picture on my wall
Well I never took it down
I guess it reminds me of those better times
I think I’ll keep it around, oh yeah I think I’ll keep it around

We’re out of frame forever more
We’re out of frame forever more
